[Comparatively slender logs, fifteen feet or so in length, were selected and these were supported at each end by "chocks," which were sections of slightly thicker logs, about three feet long. Each chock had two wide notches cut in it, deep enough to hold the logs, which were so laid that each end of each log was supported by a chock.]
